Meet Dr. Louis Abukhalaf — Your Veneers Dentist
Dr. Abukhalaf is the dentist who plans and places every veneer case at SmileCentric East. His training is the credential most relevant to cosmetic work: he graduated magna cum laude from Marquette's dental program, and he completed postgraduate cosmetic training at the Kois Center in Seattle. The Kois Center focuses specifically on the science of bite, smile design, and how veneers behave over time — not just how they look on day one. He is also a Misch Implant Institute graduate, which matters when a veneer case overlaps with implant work or a fuller mouth reconstruction.
For Geist and Oaklandon patients, the practical relevance of the Kois training is this: a Kois-trained dentist plans the case using protocols developed and refined at the institute, and the planning is done before any tooth is touched. You see your new smile in a digital preview, you approve it, and only then does the preparation begin.
How We Plan Your Veneers
The planning visit is the most important appointment in the entire veneer process. We photograph your smile from multiple angles, take an intraoral scan of your teeth, and capture a short video of how your face moves when you talk and smile. From those, we design your veneers in Digital Smile Design and show you the result before any work begins.
If you want them longer, less translucent, slightly more curved at the incisal edge, we change the design at this stage. Once the design is approved, we prepare the teeth conservatively — a fraction of a millimeter of enamel, sometimes none at all. While the porcelain is fabricated, you wear temporaries that approximate the final look. You bring them home, see how they read in your daily life, and let us know if anything needs adjustment before final bonding.
At the bonding visit, you try the porcelain in before it's cemented, check it under natural light, and approve. Only then do we bond permanently. The result is a smile you saw in the preview, approved at the try-in, and walked out with.
Getting Here from 46236
From Geist Reservoir and the lake-area neighborhoods, the most direct route is south on Olio Road to 56th Street, then west to Shadeland Avenue, and south to Washington Street. From the Oaklandon village core, take Pendleton Pike southwest to Shadeland or Shortridge. From Fall Creek and Fort Harrison neighborhoods, either Shadeland or Fall Creek Road will get you to the Washington Street corridor.

Pricing and Payment Options
We provide an itemized written estimate at the planning visit. That is the price. We don't add fees once treatment is under way. Veneer pricing depends on the number of teeth, the material (porcelain or composite), and whether any preparatory work — whitening of adjacent teeth, minor contouring — improves the result.
If you have PPO dental insurance, we file claims on your behalf. Veneers are usually classified as cosmetic, so most plans contribute little, but if a portion is covered (for example, when a chipped tooth meets restorative criteria) we capture that for you. Without insurance, our Membership Discount Plan covers preventive care at a flat annual fee and discounts cosmetic work. OrthoFi financing breaks treatment into fixed monthly payments.

Veneers FAQs
What's the difference between veneers and crowns?
Veneers cover the front surface of a tooth. Crowns cover the entire tooth. Veneers preserve more of your natural tooth structure and are the right choice when the back and sides of the tooth are healthy. Crowns are needed when a tooth is significantly damaged, has had root canal therapy, or has had a large filling that compromised its strength. We will tell you which makes sense for each tooth at the planning visit.
How long do porcelain veneers last?
Ten to fifteen years is typical. With conservative preparation, careful bonding, and a night guard if you grind, longer is common. The porcelain itself rarely fails; the bonded margin and the tooth underneath are what eventually need attention.
Will my insurance cover any of this?
Usually a small portion at most. Most plans classify veneers as elective cosmetic work. If a veneer is replacing a damaged restoration or a large filling, a portion may qualify under restorative coverage. We verify your benefits before treatment starts so the financial picture is clear.
Can I drive home after a veneer appointment?
Yes. Veneer preparation and placement is done under local anesthetic only. No sedation is required for most cases. You leave under your own power and return to normal activity the same day.
