Dr. Abukhalaf is the dentist who will personally plan and place your veneers. His DDS is from Marquette, where he graduated magna cum laude. His undergraduate degree is summa cum laude from Loyola Chicago in chemistry and biochemistry. How We Plan Your Veneers
The planning visit is the most important appointment in the entire process. We photograph your smile from multiple angles, take an intraoral scan of your teeth (no impression putty), and capture a short video of how your face moves when you talk and smile. From those, we design your veneers using Digital Smile Design and show you the result before any work begins. You approve the design first; preparation happens second.
Preparation is conservative. For most cases, we remove a fraction of a millimeter of enamel; for some cases, none at all. The less we remove, the stronger your underlying tooth stays. While the porcelain is being made at the lab, you wear temporaries that approximate the final design. You bring them home, see how they look in your daily life, and tell us if anything needs to change before the porcelain is bonded permanently.
Final bonding is one visit. You see the porcelain try-in under natural light, approve the shade and shape, and we bond with cosmetic-grade adhesive. Polish, bite check, and you drive home.
Getting Here from Oaklandon (Pendleton Pike / Shadeland)
From most of Oaklandon, the office is about fifteen minutes south. The fastest route is Pendleton Pike (US-36) southwest to Shadeland Avenue, then south on Shadeland to Washington Street. Our office is at 115 N Shortridge Road, Suite 200, two blocks east on Washington from the Shadeland intersection.
If Pendleton Pike traffic is heavy, the alternative is 56th Street west to Shadeland, then south. Either way, the drive sits in the fifteen-to-twenty-minute range depending on time of day.
Parking is in the building lot. Most Oaklandon patients pair veneer appointments with errands at Castleton or downtown to make the drive efficient. Veneer treatment runs three to four visits over six to eight weeks, so once the case is planned, the follow-up appointments are predictable and can be scheduled around your week.

You receive a written, itemized estimate at the planning visit, before any treatment begins. That number is the price. We don't add fees once treatment is underway. Can I just do a single veneer for one chipped tooth?
Yes, and it's one of the most common veneer cases we see. The work is precision color and contour matching so the new veneer reads as part of your existing smile rather than as a standalone piece. The planning visit is where we map the shade across multiple scales, account for translucency, and design the veneer to match the tooth next to it. If the surrounding teeth have darkened over time, we may suggest whitening first so the match starts from a brighter baseline.
What's the difference between porcelain veneers and Lumineers?
Lumineers is a brand name for a specific type of ultra-thin, no-prep porcelain veneer made by one lab (DenMat). Generic porcelain veneers from other labs can be just as thin and just as conservative. The choice depends on your case, not the brand. We use porcelain materials selected for each case rather than committing to one brand for every patient. At the planning visit we'll tell you which material gives you the best result for your specific teeth.
How long is the recovery after veneer placement?
There is no real recovery period. Veneer preparation and bonding are done under local anesthetic only. You leave the office, the numbness wears off over a few hours, and you go about your normal day. Some patients notice mild gum sensitivity for a day or two around the bonded area; this usually resolves on its own. You can eat normally as soon as the anesthetic wears off, with a brief caution against very hard foods (ice, hard candy) for the first 24 hours.
How do I take care of veneers day-to-day?
The same way you take care of natural teeth, with two added notes. First, if you grind at night, wear the night guard we make for you as part of the case. Untreated grinding fractures veneers over time. Second, the bonded margin where the veneer meets the natural tooth is where wear or staining shows up first, so consistent brushing and flossing along the gumline matters more than usual. Regular cleanings keep the margins clean and let us spot any wear early.
