Where We Are — Inside 46219, Just Off East 10th Street
Our office is on Shortridge Road between East 10th Street and East Washington Street, in the heart of 46219. From most parts of Irvington, we're a five to seven minute drive. From Warren Park, we're closer to ten minutes. Free parking is in front of the building.
If you're walking in for the first time, the suite is on the second floor. Use the main entrance and take the stairs or elevator. We try to bring emergency patients straight back.
About 46219 — Irvington, Warren Park, and the East Side
46219 covers some of the most established neighborhoods on Indianapolis's east side. Irvington — listed on the National Register of Historic Places — sits at the south end of the ZIP, with its tree-lined streets and brick storefronts along East Washington. Warren Park, Eastridge, and the corridor north of 10th Street round out the area, with the Pleasant Run Greenway running through it.
Day-to-day, 46219 is served by Indianapolis Public Schools and parts of MSD Warren Township, with retail clusters along East 10th and Washington Street. Ellenberger Park is a few blocks from our office and is a fixture of the neighborhood. The area has a steady mix of long-term residents and younger families moving in for the historic character of Irvington.
Why 46219 Neighbors Trust SmileCentric East
Walk-In and Same-Day Emergency Visits
Our location inside 46219 means we can often see same-day emergencies that other practices push to the next day. Call as early as possible. The morning slots fill up first.
Full Treatment in One Office Visit
We treat the cause, not just the symptom. Severe toothaches, fractured teeth, broken crowns, abscesses, and dental trauma are all handled on site. If your emergency requires a specialist referral — rare, but it happens — we coordinate that for you and we don't leave you to figure it out alone.
Insurance and Payment Options
We're in-network with most major PPO plans. Bring your card and we'll handle the claim. For uninsured patients, we discuss costs before treatment begins and offer flexible financing through CareCredit. For new patients, the $59 comprehensive exam-and-X-rays special applies to non-insured emergency visits.
Modern Imaging for Fast Diagnosis
Digital X-rays and intraoral cameras let us see what's happening fast. For an emergency, that matters — the difference between a salvageable tooth and one that needs extraction often comes down to imaging the crack accurately the first time.
Steps from Most 46219 Neighborhoods
If you're in Irvington, Warren Park, Eastridge, or the East 10th corridor, you're under ten minutes from our chair. That's faster than most ER visits even start triage.
Meet Dr. Louis Abukhalaf
Emergency dental care at SmileCentric East is led by Dr. Louis Abukhalaf. He earned his undergraduate degree in chemistry and biochemistry from Loyola University Chicago, graduating summa cum laude, then completed his dental degree at Marquette University School of Dentistry, graduating magna cum laude. After dental school, Dr. Abukhalaf continued his training at two of the most respected post-graduate institutes in dentistry: the Misch Implant Institute and the Kois Center. That depth of training matters in an emergency, because a good outcome often depends on accurate diagnosis under time pressure.
When you call with a dental emergency, you're not getting a generic on-call provider. You're seeing a dentist whose work focuses on cosmetic and implant dentistry, which means broken or knocked-out teeth, fractured crowns, and dental trauma are familiar territory.

Frequently Asked Questions
How fast can I be seen if I call right now?
During open hours, often within an hour or two for active dental emergencies. Outside open hours, leave a message and we call back first thing the next business day. If pain is severe and the office is closed, see the after-hours guidance below.
What do I do if my dental emergency happens at night or on the weekend?
For pain, alternate ibuprofen and acetaminophen on a schedule (check with a pharmacist if you take other medications). For swelling, use a cold compress 20 minutes on, 20 minutes off. For a knocked-out tooth, store it in milk and call us first thing Monday morning. Go to the ER for uncontrolled bleeding, jaw fracture, or any swelling that affects your breathing or swallowing.
Will my insurance cover an emergency visit?
Most PPO plans cover the emergency exam and X-rays. Coverage on the actual treatment depends on the plan and the procedure. We verify benefits while you wait and explain what your share will be before we treat.
Do I need to be an existing patient?
No. We see new patients for emergency visits regularly. Bring a photo ID and your insurance card if you have one.
Can the practice handle a knocked-out tooth?
Yes, and timing is the most important factor. The first 30 to 60 minutes give the best chance of saving an avulsed tooth. Place the tooth in milk, call us on the way, and skip the ER unless there are other injuries that require it.
